ABC Committees

Did you ever wonder how did this person get on that committee, or how did they make that decision? Here are some frequently asked questions and answers, and if you do not see your question answered please feel free to as and we will add it to the list;

Question: How does one get on a committee?

A You can get on a committee several ways, first and foremost, ASK. Most of the time if you have the ability, want to participate, are willing to respond and can work as a group you will be on. For some committees there are additional criteria, for example if you are not a senior driver you probably will not find yourself on the towboat committee. Likewise if you do not judge or do not understand the rules of the sport you may not find yourself on the rules committee. Q How are each of the committees formed? A The committees are created by the Chairman of the Board, he selects the committees and the board ratifies the selection. Generally the chairman of the committee is one of the most knowledgeable people on the committee and has past experience with that committee. The chairman can change the committees at anytime he or the ABC Board feel that they are not working. They are changed at a minimum of once every term for the Chairman of the Board. Q What are the committees? A There are several and they are defined by the bylaws, the Chairman has the ability to add additional committees on a as needed basis if he/she sees fit. Bylaws Committee

The purpose of this committee is to perform such duties with respect to the National, Regional and Federation Bylaws and related matters as the board may direct.

Computer Committee

The purpose of this committee is to investigate and establish a computer aided tournament equipment and software. Including:

Executive and Finance Committee

The purpose of this committee is to review all matters pertaining to the ABC budget and shall submit a complete budget report and recommendations for board consideration and action. This committee shall review and make recommendations on all matters of a financial nature involving the Club. This committee shall propose short and long-range plans for the club, subject to ratification by the board.

Fund Raising Committee

The purpose of this committee is to be responsible for raising funds for the ABC treasury. This committee will develop and implement fund raising programs at the regional level to support the national treasury.

Junior Development Committee

The purpose of this committee is to investigate and establish programs, procedures, qualifications and classifications to inspire junior athletes and promote the growth of barefoot water skiing among juniors at all levels. This should be accomplished through programs at the local, regional, national and international levels. The committee will, when appropriate, work with the AWSA Headquarters staff to secure the resources of the United States Olympic Committee and other funding sources for approved programs by the board of directors.

Officials Committee

The purpose of this committee is to investigate and establish procedures for qualifications and classifications of ABC official judges, driver, scorers and homologators. The committee will review and oversee the training, maintenance and advancement programs for officials, always concerning itself with ways and means of improving the caliber of judges, drivers, scorers and homologators.

Rules Committee

The purpose of this committee is to be responsible for the preparation of a set of rules and requirements governing competition in ABC sanctioned tournaments and for the interpretation of the Official Tournament Rules, subject to the approval of the board.

Skiers Ratings Committee

The purpose of this committee is to investigate and establish proficiency standards for the classification of skiers; and shall prescribe the procedure and forms of evidencing such classification, subject to board approval.

Team Section Committee

The purpose of this committee is to investigate and establish procedures for implementing ABC activities concerned with international events, including the selection of barefoot water ski teams (junior or senior) or individual skiers who shall be the officially sponsored representatives of the ABC in competitions designated as international by this committee. In such international competitions, the committee shall be responsible for related activities, including selection of team managers, coaches and assistants, as it may deem necessary and selection of ABC teams and/or individual skiers, subject to board approval.

Towboat Committee

The purpose of this committee is to establish procedures for qualification of competition towboats and set standards and requirements for towboats to be used at all classes of competition. Specifically the committee is charged with the establishment of minimum standards, testing procedures and testing of towboats. Additionally, the committee is responsible for establishing standards and requirements for approved towboats for all classes of tournaments, including Class C through Nationals, subject to board approval.
