March’s Featured Footer: John Boyd

John is the American Barefoot Club’s quiet giant in tournament officiating.  John has served as a judge and scorer since 1998 when his son Ryan was an elite barefooter. But long after his son stopped barefooting, John is still involved and is still nurturing the next generation of ABC judges and scorers.

Never one to raise his voice, ever. John is a fair, concise and kind official.  He seldom gets it wrong and always puts the skier first. When it’s tournament time, John is often one of the first to arrive at the lake and he is always ready to help. He is a tournament director’s best friend.

“I have personally witnessed him skipping meals in order to help scorers get results posted, even when he was a judge. I am in awe of how he will go out of his way to be the best official he can be,” says 2016 U.S. Nationals Tournament Director Lauren St. Onge.

John takes the time to assist new and less veteran officials.  He always asking: “Are you a new official? Do you have a question?” John is happy to patiently explain and teach as much as he can.

Not only does John work at U.S. tournaments but has also paid his own way to travel to many World Barefoot Championships to serve as an official.

John loves barefooting and we love John.  We are proud to have him in our #BarefootNation !
