Our own Zenon Bilas, long-time Southern Region Barefooter and Low-pole Wake Slalom Legend is turning barefoot water skiing into a work of art.
Zenon is a part of Photographer David Burnett’s exhibit called Fourth Quarter: Senior Athletes and Their Indomitable Spirit. The exhibit of 40 photographs is currently on display at the Ringling Museum of Art in Sarasota, Florida from April 13 to July 21, 2019.
The project took David Burnett two years to complete and was featured on the local news in South Florida. The photograph of Zenon back barefoot water skiing was taken during an extensive photo shoot in Delray Beach, Florida in February 2018.
“It’s very exciting to see the photograph enlarged to a 40″ x 60″ black and white print for the exhibit. The boat is traveling at 44 mph and I am about to cross the boat’s wake backward barefoot on one-foot,” says Zenon who in his late 50’s and has no plans to stop barefooting!
David Burnett has photographed every U.S. President since John F. Kennedy. He even photographed the Ayatollah Khomeini during the 1979 Iranian Revolution for Time Magazine.
He has also photographed celebrities such as Bob Marley, Tom Cruise, Michael Phelps and many others.
Burnett is the artist photographer for both the Summer and Winter Olympics.
Zenon will be making an live appearance on the water at the PGA Season Opener Barefoot Tournament on April 20.
