New Kids on the Dock heat up the Minnesota State Barefoot Tournament

Orval and Martin Cyr from Chisago City, Minnesota are nine-year-old twins who love to barefoot waterski. And on Saturday, they brought their skills to the shores of Pioneer Lake in Center City, Minnesota to make a splash in their very first barefoot tournament.

And that’s exactly what they did. Orval scored 2.18 in slalom and 180 in tricks. Martin was close behind with 1.88 in slalom and 150 points in tricks. But first, Barefoot Legend and Judge Joe Knapp put the twins through their paces on the dock (see photo.)

The dynamic duo are members of the Ski Otters show ski team and they just registered for Midwest Barefoot Regionals!

The young women were also the story on Saturday as they represented the largest division.

Megan Adams, Sammi Eaton, Ryleigh Stenson and Rachel Hohensee get ready to tear it up.

First-time tournament barefooter Rachel Hohensee joined Megan Adams, Ryleigh Stenson and Sammi Eaton as the girls ruled the dock.  Rachel is on a show ski team and is training with Kenny Kaestner at Foot’n Foundations.

Ryleigh qualified for the 2018 Junior World Barefoot Championships with a 950 in tricks and a 4.9 slalom! Sammi also chalked up a qualifying score in tricks with a 920!

The tournament had glass water all day long and Slalom and Tricks were done by noon… then even more fun began. The group grilled burgers, dogs and brats and then everyone headed out for some fun and training.
Orval Cyr got up backwards on the boom. Ryleigh Stenson did a back toe on the boom.

The highlight for Paul Adams was doing a flying dock start with his daughter Megan and then doing a triple flyer off the dock with Orval and Martin Cyr.

Huge thanks to Doug Bohn for being Tournament Director, Chief Scorer, Boat driving, Food Prep and Grunt. Joe Knapp for being Chief Judge. John Patterson for bringing the best tournament boat on the water: the Sanger DXII.

Thanks to Max Adams for setting up ship to shore for parents and spectators to view all the barefoot skiing from the comfort of shade.
