So many new barefoot tournament organizers reached out to us about how to make a tournament happen… we thought we would make a quick checklist.
Just the nuts and bolts… reach out to your regional director with additional questions.
Who is my regional director? Check here.
- Find a site (Course must be between 650m/2132 ft – 850m/2700 ft)
- Get proper permissions if a public site (Coast Guard, DNR, etc.)
- Decide on Date and which events (Slalom/Tricks/Jump)
- If you are doing Jump, you need a jump, splash eye, good homologator, course
- Find Proper Level Chief Officials: Driver, Scorer, Judge, Homologator and Safety https://abcbarefoot.files.wordpress.com/2016/04/abc-officials-requirements-final2.pdf
- Find at least TWO Boats to use (Any approved barefoot boat 1978-now, must have insurance, work with Chief Driver) http://www.usawaterski.org/pages/divisions/3event/AWSAApprovedTowboatHistory.pdf
- Find a Host USA-WSWS Water Ski Club or become one https://www.usawaterski.org/pages/clubs.html
- Sanction Tournament on USA Waterski.org http://www.usawaterski.org/sanctions/default.aspx
- Set up online registration in IWWF EMS or Old School http://onlineregistration.barefoot-forum.com/
- Notify Local News, Spread the word on Social Media, ABC Social Media
- Seek Sponsors from local businesses
- Check with tourism orgs to see if funds are available
- T-shirts and/or Awards simple is good, creative is awesome
- Safe Starting Dock (especially if doing tower)
- Pick up Jetski (good for safety and keeps tourney moving)
- Water, sun tents, for officials and skiers
- Timers for boat – For an inexpensive handheld option: jones@utoronto.ca
- How will you handle gas? Work with Chief Driver
- Scorers supplies Work with Chief Scorer
- First Aid Kit, Backboard Work with Chief Safety
- Power or generator, table, chair for Chief Scorer
- Shutdown Buoys Work with Chief Homo, Chief Driver
- Find dock starters, pick-up boat drivers, video operators
- Video Camera needed for Ranking list/Record Capable Events
- Create Running Order Work with Chief Judge

- Print out score sheets for boat judges
- Print out Event Waivers for Skiers

After Tourney:

- Scan & email official documents: cover sheet, results, officials work record, judges report, safety report to USAWSWS competition@usawaterski.org and copy chief officials Work with Chief Scorer
